50 years of Sound of Music
In 2015 the “Sound of Music” movie will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The film might be made in Hollywood, but the true story behind the huge blockbuster is all about Salzburg.

The Sound of Music was originally performed on broadway (Rodgers and Hammerstein) in 1959 an adapted in 1965 to the big screen, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
Blockbuster at the box office
After the premiere, things started to boost quickly. By the end of 1965, the “Sound of Music” movie listed as highest grossing movie of the year. But not only the audiences liked the picture. With five Oscars – including best motion picture – and many other prices, the movie received a positive review by critics as well. So far (2015), the Sound of Music movie ist regarded as the fifth highest grossing film of all time.
